COVID-19: No positive cases in Bauchi camp – NYSC opposes state govt
By on November 23rd, 2020. News

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has denied that some corps members tested positive to coronavirus.

On Friday, Bauchi State Government disclosed that 8 corps members at the NYSC camp in Wailo, Ganjuwa Local Government Area, were infected.

Ibrahim Sani, Information Officer, Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, made the confirmation in a statement.

The official said to contain the spread, the Chairman, Rilwanu Mohammed, had deployed a surveillance team to the camp to carry out sample collection.

Sani added that NYSC State Director had allocated a holding room for those affected.

But in a statement, Adenike Adeyemi, Corps Director of Public Relations, insisted the information was untrue.

The spokesperson noted that all corps members underwent COVID-19 test, conducted by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

She explained that it was a prerequisite for admission into the 37 camps in states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Adeyemi said graduates that tested positive were not admitted but referred to the NCDC for treatment.

“Therefore, reporting that 8 Corps Members undergoing Orientation Course in Bauchi State tested positive to COVID-19 is very misleading, as there is no COVID-19 positive Corps Member in Bauchi Camp or any of the NYSC Camps”, the official stressed.
