By on December 2nd, 2020. News

Former England striker, Michael Owen, has singled out Caoimhin Kelleher, Neco Williams and Curtis Jones as Liverpool’s three “heroes”, following their 1-0 win over Ajax in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Reds secured qualification for the round of 16, having won Group D.

The winning goal came in the second half, after Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana misjudged the flight of Williams’ cross.

Owen praised the performance of 22-year-old goalkeeper Kelleher, who took Alisson Becker’s place and made several top saves.

“It was a good night for Liverpool and in particular the three youngsters; the goalkeeper, Neco, who created the goal, and Curtis, who scored it.

“They were the three heroes on the night. It was a good night for the academy and a good night for Liverpool,” Owen told BT Sport.
